Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about renting a Stand Up Paddle board in Austria
Where can I rent a Stand Up Paddle board in Austria?
GetSUP lists SUP rental stations in all Austrian regions — on Lake Wörthersee and the other Carinthian lakes, in the Salzkammergut (Attersee, Mondsee, Wolfgangsee, Traunsee and more), in Tyrol, at Lake Neusiedl, on Lake Constance and on the Danube in Vienna, the Wachau and Linz. Use the search on our homepage to find the nearest station to you.
How much does SUP rental cost in Austria?
SUP rental prices in Austria typically range from about €10 to €20 per hour, depending on the location and equipment. Many stations offer cheaper rates for 2–4 hours, half a day or a full day, and premium or XXL boards cost more. Check each station's listing on GetSUP for exact pricing.
What are self-service SUP stations?
At self-service stations (for example Heiuki, kolula, Click & Paddle or SUP4fun) you book a board online or by smartphone, receive a code and take board, paddle and life jacket out of a locker on the shore — no staff and no waiting. Many are available from early morning until evening during the season. GetSUP marks these stations as requiring a reservation.
Do I need experience to rent a SUP in Austria?
Most SUP rental stations listed on GetSUP welcome complete beginners, and calm lakes such as the Carinthian bathing lakes or the Salzkammergut lakes are ideal to start on. Many stations offer short introductions, beginner courses and safety equipment including a life jacket. You should be able to swim. Check the individual station listing for details.
Which Austrian lakes are best for Stand Up Paddle?
Popular SUP destinations in Austria include Lake Wörthersee, Lake Ossiach, Lake Millstatt and Lake Weissensee in Carinthia, Attersee, Mondsee and Wolfgangsee in the Salzkammergut, Lake Achensee in Tyrol and Lake Neusiedl. In Vienna, the Old Danube and the New Danube offer calm water right in the city. GetSUP lists rental stations on 30+ Austrian lakes and rivers.
When is the SUP season in Austria?
Most Austrian SUP rental stations operate seasonally from May to September, with July and August the main season; some open from April and stay open into October in good weather. Many staffed stations only open in good weather. Check each station's opening hours on GetSUP.
Are there rules for stand up paddling in Austria?
On most lakes you can paddle freely, but some lakes are privately owned or protected and restrict SUP or charge a small fee for your own board. Rivers such as the Danube are waterways with shipping traffic and their own regulations — a life jacket is strongly recommended there, and beginners should stay in calm side arms and bays. Respect bathing areas and nature reserves (for example the reed belt of Lake Neusiedl) and ask the rental station about local rules.
Can I book a SUP in advance in Austria?
Booking options vary by station. Self-service stations are booked online, some staffed stations offer online booking or reservation by phone, and others operate on a walk-in basis. Check the individual station page for booking information and website links.
